Food Donations – April 2021

2nd April 2021

We supply emergency food to single people and families in need across the Folkestone & Hythe District (Shepway), through our Foodbanks in Folkestone, New Romney, and Lydd as well as supply food to clients through our Homeless Support Service, FoodStop (mobile soup kitchen) and Winter Shelter services.  We distribute an average of 2.5 tonnes of food from our warehouse every month, that’s the equivalent of 5000 tins of tomatoes!

All the food we give out comes from donations received from the generous people in our local community.  As you can imagine, we receive more of some items than others, so to ensure that nothing goes to waste from overstocking and that we don’t need to use our valuable funds buying items we are short of, our Foodbank produces a poster of the most needed items each month.

A year into the pandemic, we are finding that food donations have gradually diminished whilst the demand has continued to increase and our stock is starting to run very low in some areas.

If you are able to pop an extra item from the list in your shopping basket this week/month we would be really grateful.  There are several places across the district where you can drop off your donations in our orange food collection bins.

Donation points during COVID-19

  • Asda (Folkestone)
  • Sainsbury’s (Folkestone-Park Farm)
  • Sainsbury’s (New Romney)
  • Tesco (Cheriton)
  • Waitrose (Hythe)

Thank you to all our supporters who so generously donate items for others in our community and thank you to all those who ‘host’ our collections bins, you make a real difference.
